Esplanade Apartments: A glimpse inside

Things are taking shape, and the finish line is getting closer at the St James Church Apartments in Mt Eden.

The 123-year-old building was close to derelict, it’s being painstakingly restored with extensive seismic strengthening and the insertion of four three-bedroom apartments inside.

Original, character-filled features such as unique stained-glass windows, decorative bracing and Kauri timber are being restored and re-used – Kauri timber from the original ceiling is being re-purposed as floorboards.

Bringing a new life to a piece of Auckland’s architectural heritage is an extremely rewarding process for the whole project team.
